About
Carlos Perez
I'm a backend engineer. For about seven years I've worked on data systems — lately privacy engineering, with a lot of Spark and Airflow in between. That's the day job, and it's a good one, but it isn't what this site is about.
What I actually love is the abstract side of computer science. I did a master's in combinatorial optimization, and I never really left. Graph theory, hard problems, elegant little results that don't have an obvious use — I find them beautiful, and I like taking one apart slowly until it makes sense. That's most of what you'll find here.
I also build things. Increasingly with AI, which I'm learning in public; sometimes with wood, which keeps me honest about craft. And I watch a lot of baseball. Occasionally these collide — there's optimization hiding in a lineup card if you look.
No newsletter to sell you, no course. This is a place to think out loud and leave a record I'm proud of. If something here made a hard idea click, that's the whole point.
